Ben began to pant harshly. His breathing distorted, his mind blurred, dehydration taking over. It wasn't because he was tired, no, not at the very least. He had just avoiding death's door. Had that just happened? Had an avalanche really taken control of the circus. Ben just stared down, at the cold, rocky ground, then looked at his companion, Fiera. The tigress seemed distressed, in a way, but, unable to speak from fear, Ben just rolled onto his side and lay there, eyes closed. He could feel his heart beating, a loud beat in his golden ears, and he knew he was now safe from harm, he and the tigress.
The mountain was several hundred metres tall, a huge, now rocky monolith of stone. The ice had completely gave way and fallen, fallen to the earth. Ben opened his eyes. Back to reality. He instantly snapped back and sprang up again, a single sapphire eye staring upwards at the mountain. Well, this is it, he thought. Time to make a new destiny.

Fiera had collapsed as soon as she had assured herself that both Ben and herself were finally out of harm's reach. Was the circus actually gone now? She had rolled onto her back, cushioned by the blooming flowers and soft, springy grass, and watched the wisps of clouds drift leisurely across the surface of the cerulean sky.
Patiently the ivory tigress had waited until her breathing had calmed from ragged pants, and she could clearly define where the treetops ended and the sky began, and to see if Ben would speak, curled on his side beside her.
The bronze lion had pulled himself to his paws then, and Fiera had followed his azure gaze to the moutain towering before him, no longer wearing its crown of ice and sleet. Time to move, then.
Fiera, in turn, struggled to her paws, and hissed a curse through gritted fangs as she shifted her off of her foreleg. Twisted, she thought, not fractured, which would have been a horrible impairment, out here on her own.
Was she alone?
Now that they had escaped, would Ben even want to continue travelling with her? The snowy female had rather enjoyed his company, despite having known him for a such a short period of time, but he walked with the aura of a leader - or at least, someone whom the tigress would follow.
"That...that was close," Fiera murmured; she had not realised just how shocked she had been. "What...what're you going to do now that the circus is gone?"

Ben watched with concern as the tigress got to her feet, and he knew that she was in pain. But he remained silent, unable to speak. His remaining eye scanned her, her tail and foreleg, which were different and scarred in a different way. Her tail seemed...metallic...unnatural, and her left leg was almost black. Had she hurt it before they met?
Fiera then muttered one or two sentences, which Ben only just managed to catch. He hesitated. The circus was gone. Gone. Forever? Hopefully not. “They only thing I can do. Explore, imagine, and live.” his words trailed off into a soft whisper, as the word live seemed far away, in his mind, in his imagination. The circus was filled with dying animals. Ben had never quite managed to learn to hunt. His mother had never shown him the ropes, and, being a circus boy, he had always had decaying meat brought to him anyway. This was different. Food would have to be hunted.
Then something caught Ben's eye. A golden blur, a gold and black blur. What was this? Ben stood defensively, slightly in front of Fiera. Ben began to feel nervous, he was almost frightened of this land...

Fiera watched the male's gaze flick over her fleetingly and assumed he was musing over her mechanical tail and burnt hindleg. Not that she minded, really, as all the humans had bluntly pointed it out for a good few years of her life, and she was grateful the male had had the courtesy to remain silent, unlike the brats who had dared to pull at her tail to see if it would fall apart or shoot a brightly-colored laser.
She responded to his plans with nothing but a thoughtful nod. She had watched her mother hunting once or twice before they were captured, and seen her locked in battle with the humans when they had been carted away. The snowy tigress had hunted before, catching tiny rodents that had scampered unintentionally into her quarters, but she could not fight - all attempts to retaliate had failed, and she had assured herself she was incapable of such an act. Not to mention, with her aforementioned injury, she would be drastically slowed for a couple of weeks.
"Is there any room for a stray tigress, in your plans?" The enquiry had rolled from her tongue before she had realised she had uttered them. Ben's sudden wariness, however, wiped the alarm from her expression, and she peeled her ebony lips away from her pristine ivories in a viscious snarl, the fur along her spine bristling. With Ben defending her, however, she did not feel so defenceless.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,450,true][bg=000000] "Is there any room for a stray tigress, in your plans?" the female tigress asked, and Ben barely had time to answer. The bushes before him began to tremble.
Ben's ears flattened as he growled harshly, and he could see the bushes tremble and move. The lion scented the air for an intruder, single eye darting left and right for the creature. His tail swished like a dog's, teeth bared and ready for attack. The creature leaped out swiftly, a spotted feline smaller than a dog. It's long legs stretched, fur standing up so straight, the beast seemed a lot larger. Ben kept his ground. The feral cat hissed and mewed coldly, a clear warning to back off. It obviously hadn't seen a big cat before.
Before the cat could hiss again, Ben leaped onto it, the golden legs of the creature failing to support both animals at once. The cat hissed some more, and Ben opened his maw and sunk his teeth into the scruff of the cat, lifting his head and flinging it to his side. It barely managed to get up again, before it collapsed. The male suddenly felt guilty. The animal was simply guarding it's territory, Ben knew it, he didn't have to kill the cat.
He glanced quickly to the white lady behind him. She was in a defensive position. Ben's ears pricked forward again as the cat ran for it's life. It was most certainly hurt, it limped terribly. “It's okay now, Fiera, it was just some sort of cat...” he muttered voice trailing off as he scanned the horizon for a lake.

Fiera watched as the cat peeled away from the undergrowth, and both it and Ben were soon involved in combat, a deadly dance of skill, claws and ivories.
It did not surprise her when the bronze lion emerged victorious, and yet allowed his foe to escape. He was a noble man like that, and the ivory woman like that about him.
“It's okay now, Fiera, it was just some sort of cat...” He assured her, and Fiera dipped her head in a grateful nod, "Thank you for protecting me, Ben."
Her viridian gaze followed his own icy blue stare, and she turned her sensitive nose to the winds. The scent of water - refreshing, cool and sweet against her senses - hit her nose, and only then did she realise how parched she was, and she enquired, "Are you heading towards the lake?"
At least she thought it was a lake - any body of water would do, really.

A small image of a sparkling lake amongst the glaciers danced in Ben's mind as he stared between the rocks in the mountain. A little glimmer caught his eye. It was fairly close, this liquid, but it seemed yet so far. It was definitely a lake, unless he was seeing things, but determination said to him that it was real.
"Thank you for protecting me, Ben." This caught Ben by surprise. Normally, when Ben had helped, no thanks were made evident by the animal being helped. They normally whimpered and ran away. He smiled a little, staring at the ground, then at Fiera. “You're...you're welcome Fiera...” a quick glance towards the 'lake' was sure to tell Fiera that he was heading in that direction.
"Are you heading towards the lake?" The woman asked, and Ben stared towards the body of water, and he knew that if she could see it, and he had seen it, the water was real. “If you are, then I am too.” he replied, ears twitching at every sound. He felt nervous int this land, he didn't know where he was going, and he wasn't going anywhere without the tigress there with him.
He took a few shaky steps in the direction of the lake, and kept worrying about his blind eye, blocking some of his vision, and whether a predator brave enough to take him on would magically appear. He glanced at Fiera, and gestured to her to move with him. His paws began to move on their own, stepping gently towards the water, as he was clearly incredibly thirsty. It just seemed to get further and further away with every step...

"If you are, then I am too." The ivory lady was rather happy at Ben's reply, and she nodded, "I don't think I'd rather be anywhere else at the moment."
She could tell, by how tense he seemed, that he was nervous, and she reminded herself that he didn't have much experience in regards of surviving in the wild. Being partially blind couldn't have reassured him, either.
Fiera jogged up to his blind side as quickly as she could with her injured paw as he began to move, and watched the gleam of consumable water through the distant foliage, taunting them.
"Almost there..." She murmured, as much to herself as to the bronze lion accompanying her. No matter what, they would survive - if they had escaped the avalanche that had consumed their circus, then they could survive any threat these strange lands through at them.

The tigress ran somewhat oddly up to the male's blind side. He pinned his ears back and unsheathed his claws, stopping a little, before realising it was Fiera next to him. He hid his silver claws, but kept his ears laid backwards. He continued onwards, towards the lake, and it had started to get closer as soon as the female went by his side. He was still concerned for her though, as she seemed to almost limp towards him. He decided to keep quiet though, for the better.
He urged himself to go on, his last drink was days ago, and the thought of the cold liquid flowing down his parched throat made his paws stumble a little faster. "Almost there..." the tigress muttered, and Ben could begin to see the glimmer past the shrubs before him.
It took only a few seconds for greed to quickly take over and run through his veins, and Ben had already began to run, or stagger, faster towards the water source. He dodged small plants, a few rocks, before realising he had just left the tigress by herself. He stopped abruptly, allowing her to catch up before he moved onwards, a few metres left until the lake.
The bronze male swished his tail a little as he reached the blue and silver water, which was lapping ever so slightly at the wind. It sloshed over the rocks that were on the floor of the lake, and little insects flew and buzzed over it. Ben immediately sunk his entire snout into the water before beginning to drink quickly. It rushed down his dry throat and the cool feeling in his stomach was amazing. He felt every little drop. The male continued to drink until, several seconds later, thought it was time to stop.

A slight frown creased her pretty facial features as his pace quickened as the first slivers of lake came into view, and she wondered just how long he had gone without water. After all, she had found locating water troublesome herself - had Ben been able to find as much as she had?
The bronze lion suddenly took off through the foliage, staggering slightly, and Fiera watched on calmly, limping after him at her own steady pace. A small smile tugged at ebon lips as he pulled himself to a stop to allow her to catch up, and she murred, whiskers twitching with amusement, "A gentleman, I see."
The tigress rolled into a crouch beside him at the lake's mud-caked bank and joined him in his drink, sinewy tail flicking with content behind her slender form. Drawing herself up into a sitting position, Fiera idly began to pick an irritating burr from between her claws and waited until he had consumed his fill.
Viridian optics drifted upwards towards the ceruleaan sky, as if it portrayed the infinite opportunities before them in its great depths. "We've escaped the avalanche, but what do we do now?"

As the tigress stared upwards, Ben followed her gaze to the clouds drifting slowly past the wide ocean that was the sky. The vastness of it all had always captivated his mind, the way it never ends, how it changes from light to dark in a matter of hours. It was amazing. No matter what happened on Earth, the sky never changed it's role.
"We've escaped the avalanche, but what do we do now?" the voice of Fiera clicked Ben's mind to reality. The question was a hard one to answer indeed. He stared from the sky to the females green eyes, trying as hard as he can to find the answer in his blurred mind. “Try to find our bearings...i guess...” he murmured, gaze drifting to the mountains and the foliage. They didn't know this place, they had only been in their own home, the forest, and the circus. Never had he dared to venture outside of this place.
“We now know the circus is off limits, don't we? And that there are mountains here...” he said quickly, mind working faster than his mouth. If he kept a record of all the places, could he find his way around easier? “I think, we should find a place with food, water and shelter, and call that home. We should then begin to venture forth.” he added, smiling a little at the thought. He had hated the circus, but the last time he was in the wild, it was when he was born. He can't remember much, but he remembers the bright birds and the annoying bugs.

"Try to find our bearings, I guess." She was glad he had somewhat of an idea of what to do next, for the ivory lady was not as certain. What were they to do, on such foreign terrain?
“We now know the circus is off limits, don't we? And that there are mountains here...” Fiera nodded with agreement and added, gesturing to the bodice of water before them with her mechanical tail, "And we know there's a lake here, so we can fall back here if we can't find water."
“I think, we should find a place with food, water and shelter, and call that home. We should then begin to venture forth.”
The tigress gave a soft purr at the prospect of a home. Her viridian gaze traced the narrow river disappearing into the foliage upon the opposite side of the lake.
"Why don't we follow that river?" She suggested, cocking her head to the side contemplatively. "Where there's water, there's prey, and hopefully we'll find some shelter along the way."

Ben's dull eye traced the outline of the tigress's tail. It was human-made. Not wanting to be rude, he quickly averted his gaze to Fiera. "Why don't we follow that river?" she had suggested, and Ben looked over to the river. He hadn't seen that earlier, he had just been focused on the lake. "Where there's water, there's prey, and hopefully we'll find some shelter along the way."
Prey, food...good food. Ben thought of what prey was like in the forest. The occasional zebra, birds, small mammals, these were all in his past home in the forest. What prey was to be found in this oddity of a land?
"Sounds like a plan." the male said, grinning. "Would you like to set off now? Or would you prefer to just hang back here for a bit, just to get our strengths up?" he asked, tilting his head a little.
"Am I dead or am I dreaming instead?"

(I will, my dear Daedalus XD It's quite the masterpiece, is it not?)
"Sounds like a plan," Ben agreed with her suggestion, and a smile tugged at the young woman's ebon lips at her accepted idea. "Would you like to set off now? Or would you prefer to just hang back here for a bit, just to get our strengths up?"
A thoughtful frown creased her facial features as she considered their options, parting jowls to taste the air. The only trace of big threats - like more big cats or something of the like - were all stale, and the only creature that seemed to come near here were wolves, which weren't as much of a threat.
"Perhaps we should get going," Fiera suggested. "We should try and find some shelter before dark."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,550,true][bg=000000] ((OOC: Indeed, it is [can't help but think of Dark Shadows XD] Would you like the next thread to be in a forest? You can choose if you want <3)) Fiera suggested moving on. Ben looked to the sky. The sun was about three quarters across the sky, which suggested night fall was to happen in several hours. Just enough time to find somewhere to sleep. "We should try and find some shelter before dark." she added, and the male couldn't help but agree. If they continued down the river, maybe they could find some drinking animals, and could make an attempt to hunt them. Ben had never hunted before, except for a few insects and such.
"Then we have no time to waste then, hey?" he said, beginning to get up, taking one last drink from the cool water, and scanned his path before hand. If they continued down this river, could they end up at some sort of forest? Ben had heard from his cage-mates that forests were beautiful, filled with prey and water was abundant. He had never been in one before, in fact, he'd only been in a jungle and the circus. "We should try to find a forest. Apparently, they are more amazing than jungles." He said, searching through his mind for an image of a jungle. If a jungle was great, what was a forest to be?
